Svalbard archipelago

In June 2008, Alon Ohad and Tim Starr are attempting the first ever circumnavigation of the Svalbard archipelago which consists of three main islands Spitsbergen, Nordaustlandet, Edgeøya and a number of smaller ones. The archipelago is the northern most part of Norway and is located between latitude 75° to 81° north. The Islands are some of the closest landmasses to the North Pole and are home to some of Europe’s largest and most spectacular glaciers. Scandanavia

In March 2008,sponsored sea kayaker Jeff Allen will be setting off on an attempt to circumnavigate Scandinavia. Starting in Gothenburg, Sweden, Jeff along with Mark Schoon from America will be kayaking northwards, in an attempt to reach the distant town of Kirkenes, a small Norwegian port which lies close to the Russian border. More than 60% of Norway’s long and exposed coastline lies above the Arctic Circle and this will be just phase one of a two phase expedition to paddle and ski the majority of Scandinavia. As well as being an incredible adventure Jeff and Mark hope to raise both monies and awareness for two charities. The ‘Ovarian Cancer Action’ and the ‘Children’s Hospice South West’ Precious Lives Appeal. For further information on this project you can log into http://www.seakayakingcornwall.com/norway2008.html

Round Britain '08 Expedition

In 2008 Rowland Woollven and Cath Tanner are to fulfil a long-held dream – the circumnavigation of mainland Great Britain by sea kayak.   Fewer than 20 people have completed this journey since Nigel Dennis and Paul Caffyn made the first circumnavigation in the 1980’s.   Of those, only 3 have been women, so Cath will become only the 4th ‘woman round Britain’.   Rowland will, at 54, be the oldest paddler by far to complete the circumnavigation!   The expedition has already gained the support of Cath’s employers – Duchy College, Cornwall (they have granted her a sabbatical for the duration of the expedition), and Nigel Dennis, one of the UK’s leading paddlers and a sea kayak manufacturer.   Nigel has sponsored Rowland as a ‘Sea Kayaking UK’ sponsored paddler for many years, and has provided Cath with a custom built Explorer LV for her to use.   At the end of the expedition, Cath too will become a Nigel Dennis sponsored paddler.
