Construction FAQ
Q Why does your company favor skegs over rudders?
A We feel that our kayaks handle well enough not to require rudders. he skeg can be used to trim the kayak in wind. Rudders can get in the way when performing rescues in rough conditions .
Q What construction do you recommend if you want a light boat but still want to go out in the rough stuff?
A It depends on your meaning of the word
rough. We recommend the standard construction for paddling in the
conditions we get around Anglesey. The elite construction was put
together for lighter paddlers and people who want to use the kayaks in
less demanding environments. The standard construction can take rough
water landings and the abuse of rescues in 5* conditions.
Q How much lighter is the elite lay-up than the standard?
A Roughly 8-10 lb lighter. The gel is thinner and there is less glass in the lay up. It also has Carbon Kevlar bulkheads and a Carbon seat.
Q What is durability of a Carbon Kevlar kayak like, and how easy are they to maintain?
A You can take a hammer to a Carbon Kevlar
kayak and it will bounce off. To make a hole in one is quite a
challenge unless you have spike. However if you do manage to put a hole
in one they are harder to repair than glass kayaks. The gel is a little
more prone to damage as the Carbon Kevlar is not quite as ridged as a
glass kayak. If you want a really light boat this is the option to go
for
Q How do I work out where a custom bulkhead should be?
A Simply let us know you’re inside leg measurement and we will do the calculations.
