Ashley Brown – SKUK Sponsored Paddler
Ashley Brown is a seasoned sea kayak instructor, expedition paddler, and outdoor educator based in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. She is an ACA Level 5 Advanced Open Water Coastal Kayaking Instructor and Level 4 Instructor Trainer Educator, with over a decade of experience teaching in challenging ocean conditions.
At the College of Charleston, Ashley has developed and teaches courses in Coastal Kayaking, Stand Up Paddleboarding, and Instructor Development, focusing on technical mastery, leadership, environmental awareness, and equity in the outdoors. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes pushing boundaries with purpose—building confidence, connection, and skill through fun and challenge on the water.
In recognition of her contributions to paddlesports education, Ashley received the American Canoe Association's 2019 Excellence in Instruction Award. She also served as chair of the ACA’s Coastal Kayak Committee, helping guide national instructional standards and safety practices.
Ashley’s paddling has taken her from the cold waters of Nova Scotia to the surf of Baja and the tidal estuaries of the American Southeast. Whether coaching in surf zones, navigating open crossings, or leading skills sessions at international symposiums, she brings passion and professionalism to every endeavor.
Ashley paddles a Carbon Kevlar SKUK Pilgrim, custom-designed to reflect the meeting point of ocean and sand—a visual reminder of her connection to dynamic coastal environments and the edge spaces where growth happens.
Based in Charleston, she especially enjoys sharing the tidal creeks, barrier islands, and offshore surf of the Atlantic near Folly Beach, introducing paddlers to the magic and power of the sea.
